Malaysian contractor OceanMight has achieved the successful sailaway of three topsides and three jackets destined for Shell’s FaS gas fields development on the MLNG production sharing contract offshore Sarawak.

OceanMight, the oil and gas subsidiary of KKB Engineering, fabricated the wellhead platforms for the F22, F27 and Selasih fields under an engineering, procurement and construction contract that was awarded in December 2022. First steel for the FaS structures was cut in April 2023 at OceanMight’s yard at Jalan Bako, Kuching, Sarawak.

The three wellhead platforms top the scales at a combined 5700 tonnes.

Shell operates the MLNG PSC with a 40% interest and its partners are national upstream company Petronas Carigali, also having 40%, and Petroleum Sarawak Exploration & Production (PSEP) on 20%.

OceanMight has a workforce of some 1600 personnel, 90% of which are skilled Sarawakians.

“[The] OceanMight workforce comprises of Sarawakians, who have done the region proud – that local content workforce can have the capability and work ethics to finish the MLNG FaS project in due time,” said Kho Pok Tong, group managing director of KKB Engineering.

OceanMight was licensed by Malaysia’s national energy giant Petronas in 2013. Over the past decade, the contractor has competitively tendered for both domestic and international projects, winning 17 of those projects. Fifteen of the projects have been completed with two still in progress.

To date, the 17 projects have accounted for a total or more than 9.7 million manhours with zero lost time injury.
